Salty Dog Charters was established in 2013 by Captain Brandon Vaughan. What started off as small, one man operation has now continuously grown year after year into a multi-vessel fleet with solid captains and crew behind it all. Our crew is consistent, educated, reliable and very hard working. Captain Brandon has envisioned this business to not only be a charter operation but a staple in the local fishing industry that people can rely on and trust.
This business platform has allowed him to create jobs, partner with local foundations in order to serve the community and give back to the Tampa Bay Area. He is also involved with the preservation of the environment and ecosystem around us all. His true passion is educating and empowering our clients on our fishery.
Salty Dog Charters is a proud member of the Old Salts Foundation, Captains for Clearwater, as well as, The Treasure Island and Madeira Beach Chamber of Commerce.

About Your Captain
Being a guide on the Gulf of Mexico is simply what he does best. Capt. Brandon has been fishing these waters for 20+ years by sea and land. He has taken this industry by storm, growing his small business into a 2 boat operation covering offshore and inshore guided charters. He truly loves to empower and educate his clients on the ecosystem around us. He has been fishing this area since he was around 8 years old, he grew up on Tampa Bay learning the ins and the outs of the fishing industry. Captain Brandon strives for excellency in every single trip he runs. He is meticulous in the way he operates his business and maintains his client relationships. He is a very kind and genuine human who not only shows compassion for the fishing industry but strives to educate each one of his clients on the areas they are exploring. He prides himself on education, empowerment and creating a more sustainable fishery for the future generations to come. He takes great pride in learning as much as he possibly can and providing stellar service for anybody who steps aboard. He will stop at nothing to become one of the best in the industry, he is paving his own way, he is currently sponsored by Smith Optics, Tampa Offshore Fishing Radio, Tampa Offshore Fishing, and he is an Under Amour fishing guide as well. He is a frequent guest on 102.5 the Bone radio station on the Tampa Offshore Fishing Radio segment. How many people can your charter boat accommodate?
Our charter accommodates 1 – 5 persons.
What should I bring on my charter trip?
You are able to bring whatever you’d like to eat and drink on board. Alcohol is perfectly acceptable, as long as there is no glass on board that could easily break. We have a Yeti on board that you are able to place your lunch and drinks in. You may also bring a smaller cooler on board if you prefer. We recommend bringing a cooler and keeping it in your car to keep your fish iced down on the way home, we will supply you with ice for that as well. Please do not forget to bring your hats and sunscreen. We recommend that you wear gym shoes on board and recommend you wear a UV protectant shirt. We have all the necessary top notch fishing gear ready to go on board, no fishing licenses are required as you are covered under our company. If you’d like to bring a combo of your own, please keep it to 1 or 2.
What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my charter?
We will brief you of the expected weather conditions for your charter time as soon as practical. You will always have the opportunity to change your charter type from an offshore to inshore based upon the briefing we provide you and your judgment of your party. We will not take you fishing if there is a small craft advisory in effect or if we feel that there is a high probability that weather conditions could deteriorate to an unsafe condition during your scheduled charter. Don’t worry; if we take you out rest assured that the weather conditions are safe for your planned charter on our boat. We want you back again and again!
